Application for CARES Act Emergency Fund Open Through May 31

All BW students seeking emergency grant funding due to COVID-19 should apply through the CARES Act Emergency Fund. The application deadline is May 31, 2020.

Student emergency grants help BW students who are facing financial difficulty due to an emergency situation or one-time hardship related to the COVID-19 crisis. The funds are awarded to help alleviate short-term financial need. For purposes of this grant program, a financial emergency is defined as an unforeseen expense that, if not resolved quickly, could lead to a disruption of the student’s education, student's departure from the university or loss of momentum toward completion.

This fund is sustained through generous gifts from donors; grants awarded do not need to be repaid. A student emergency grant is not a substitute for financial aid. The BW Financial Aid Office will work directly with grant applicants to determine the effect of the award, if any, on their aid, as well as long-term planning for financial wellness during their BW tenure.

Completed applications are reviewed by members of the student emergency grant advisory committee.


This form may be completed by full-time, undergraduate students with a temporary financial hardship resulting from a crisis or emergency situation which may impede their academic progress and ability to complete classes. Grant amounts will depend on available funding and the type of student need.

  • Student must be a full-time, undergraduate degree-seeking Baldwin Wallace University student in the semester in which the funds are being requested, with full-time credit hours. This fund is not available to part-time, graduate or international students.
  • Student must have a proven record of academic progress verified by earned credits, GPA and good academic standing.
  • Student has a FASFA on file with the BW Financial Aid Office or is willing to complete one (if able).
  • Student must be able to provide sufficient documentation of financial need, e.g., billing statements, receipts, repair estimates, etc.

Please note: Items not funded by this emergency grant include tuition/fees, legal fines, parking tickets, health insurance, study abroad costs, travel for academic conferences, interviews or items on university bill.

Additional Assistance

If you do not qualify for this emergency grant or receive this grant but are still facing a financial hardship due to job loss, loss of income, medical expenses, etc., including hardships related to the COVID-19 crisis, you may be eligible to receive additional financial aid through the Special Circumstance Review process (see form #2 on our Financial Aid webpage).
