Get Started at BW

First-year students are those incoming students who will be starting their first semester of college in the fall of 2022.

Orientation is an important first step in your BW experience! It offers helpful information about college life, as well as the opportunity to meet other first-year students, faculty and staff.


Orientation Session Dates

  • Friday, June 17 - Saturday, June 18
  • Wednesday, July 6 - Thursday, July 7
  • Monday, July 25 - Tuesday, July 26
  • Thursday, July 28 - Friday, July 29

Orientation takes place over two days for new students. There is also programming for parents and families at the same time.


Overview for Students

Day One

Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m. Day one includes:

  • University welcome.
  • Resource fair.
  • Meeting with your orientation leaders and small group.
  • Engaging with faculty members.
  • Navigating technology.
  • A full evening of interactive and educational events.

All new students stay overnight in a residence hall.

Day Two

Begins at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast. Day two includes:

  • Time with your orientation leader and small group.
  • Sessions specific for commuter students and resident students.
  • Office open houses for personalized assistance.

Day two ends at 12 p.m.

Student athletes and Conservatory students stay until approximately 1:30 p.m. for additional sessions specific to your experience.


Overview for Parents and Families

Participation in orientation is optional for parents and families, however many find the experience useful. Registration is required and is part of the student registration process.

Day One

Check-in begins at 8:45 a.m. Day one includes:

  • University welcome.
  • Resource fair.
  • Information concerning tuition, billing and financial aid.
  • Family-specific sessions to help launch your student.

You will say goodbye to your student at 5 p.m. and close your day with a light reception.

Day one ends for parents and families at 6 p.m.

Overnight accommodations for parents and families are on your own. View recommended locations.

Day Two

Optional breakfast available on campus 8 a.m., it's $6 per person at the dining hall entrance, cash or credit accepted. Day two includes:

  • Your part of the BW experience.
  • Sessions for commuters and residents.
  • Office open houses for personalized assistance.

Day two ends at 12 p.m.

Parents and families of student athletes and Conservatory students stay until approximately 1:30 p.m. for additional sessions specific to their experience.
