BW Graduate Stylist Participates in Golden GlobesBaldwin Wallace graduate Juliana McDonald '13 recently had a chance to put her English, public relations and marketing education to work at The 73rd Annual Golden Globes, plugging into the glittering Hollywood event as part of the hair product and stylist education company Fuel, which was a VIP sponsor in the Globes' Style Lounge. McDonald is the Marketing and Social Media Specialist at Fuel.

Preparation for Event

To prepare for Fuel's involvement with the Style Lounge, McDonald said, "...we had a special banner designed and made, marketing collateral, flyers to hand out, all in addition to working that day and shipping products there. All of the planning and work leading up to that day paid off extremely well. We actually ran out of hair products to gift out and now have a wait-list for products!"

Fuel gained attention for their brand by including some of their soon-to-be launched products in gift bags distributed at the awards show, through social media engagement by stylists and celebrities, and by leveraging blogs and news outlets. McDonald said, "We’ve already seen an increase in traffic to our website, so the event was a springboard for our brand awareness in the consumer market."

Use of BW English and Public Relations Degree

As a double major in English and public relations with a minor in marketing, McDonald acknowledged the impact her education has had in her career path. She said, "I have to say that being an English major has been a major advantage in my current position. I manage Fuel's hair blog, Fuel for Thought, social media accounts and web content. Having a strong background in writing, and particularly for an online audience, has been really helpful. I have to be able to educate stylists while captivating them with a story at the same time. Writing is everything."
